I was born with one kidney, and that kidney stopped working when I was 12 years old. At 12 years old I started dialysis and a month later on August 30, 1996 I received a kidney transplant. I have had this kidney transplant for 28 plus years. Since my first kidney transplant, I have been able to live a close to normal life. I went to college, got married, currently raising my 15 year daughter old with my husband, and have gone in a few multi state roadtrips with my family. I love learning new skills and hobbies. My favorite hobby is blinging pens and tumblers. I love crafting. I love attending church and being part of different groups. I love my community, church, friends, and family.
A kidney transplant is not a cure, but a "temporary" fix. I have had my current kidney transplant for 28+ years and as of 2022 my kidney function has been declining. I need a kidney to save my life. I have made diet and exercise changes so that I can try to stay healthy and out of dialysis. My hope and prayer is that I can find a donor before I become very ill and need dialysis. Dialysis can be very hard on the body, mentally, and emotionally. If you know someone who is dealing with CKD, please ask how you can help them. Most times, we (people with CKD) suffer in silence. This illess takes a toll not only physically but also mentally, and emotionally. A new kidney will give me a 3rd chance at life and give the opportunity to be a part of my more special occassions with my family.
